Transitioning from Spring to Summer Fashion in Three Easy Steps

Transitioning from Spring to Summer Fashion in Three Easy Steps

While in the valley of the sun, spring tends to feel a lot like summer and many people dress similarly for both seasons. However, around much of the country, there are vast differences in these seasons and the fashion statements for each! But even Phoenix tends to get a few rare spring days when cool breezes and even rain take over just before summer official arrives, requiring some transitional pieces.

With that in mind, staying on top of transitional trends to take the fashion conscious through both seasons is important, and of course, a lot of fun! Christopher J. Apparel suggest these easy tips for transitioning from spring to summer fashion.

1. Layer

While things may heat up in the middle of the day, mornings and evenings can still provide some cool (or chilly!) respite from the warm weather. But while it’s nearly impossible to dress for multiple seasons at once, layering is a great transitional trick. It starts with a great basic ensemble (such as a favorite plain t-shirt and jeans or linen pants) that pairs well with a light jacket or sweater; a cute maxi-dress with a jean denim jacket; or a stunning cover up over a swim suit for beach goers to go from “surf to sidewalk.”

2. Add Accessories

Accessorizing is a great way to showcase one’s individual style and to easily transition an existing wardrobe through every season. Plus, it’s a fairly inexpensive way to update a wardrobe and it allows wearers that aren’t so cutting edge with their fashion choices to get a little more daring with new trends without getting too far out of their comfort zone.
Think oversized sunglasses, big floppy hats, a light scarf, weaved or wicker totes or purses, and clear “jelly” shoes — today’s modern twists on this classic once-meant-for-kids footwear are so fun and they just scream summer.

3. Lighten Up

Many people wear darker colors in the cooler weather months but with spring and summer seasons, it’s time to lighten up! While black tends to be thought of as sophisticated and flattering, monochromatic white or tan is a beautifully bold fashion statement — and so elegant in its simplicity. Consider a long flowing white skirt paired with an easy tank or crop top, or a white jumpsuit or romper. Or pair classic khakis or chinos with a crisp white shirt (like Christopher J. Apparel’s popular Manhattan). This serves as a blank canvas for some bright and summery accessories — so bring on the color!

For those that can’t bear to give up their favorite black staples in favor of white, gray is a great neutral and is a hot hue for summer 2021. Other trending colors for the season include buttery yellow, poppy pink, vibrant orange, magnetic magenta and neon lime green. Incorporating these hues in small doses (such as with a great pair of shoes or a handbag) or with a big statement (lime green pants, anyone?) can take one’s wardrobe from spring to summer, and is sure to turn some heads, in the blink of an eye.

Remember that the best style choices are the ones that are not only fashionable but functional. Fashion is fun — and it’s even better when it allows the wearer to be ultra-comfortable too! So have a great time updating the closet with some summer statement pieces.
